My 4 year old home made computer, has started going into a "power save mode" while bringing up Windows XP. Started about a month ago, but I could turn off and on and if I could call up a program fast enough, It would not do the powersave thing. I have done restores to no avail. Yesterday, I did a format on my hard drive and started from scratch. Worked great for about 6 hours then started the powersave again. However, now it goes to sleep before Windows has fully started.Any ideas where to start looking?? Hardware or software??? Maybe I should state. its my monitor that goes into powersave mode. Can you get it to load into safe mode? Possibly could change power settings, if that is the problem.

If you have a PCI, AGP or PCI-E graphic card and not onboard GFX, then re-seat your card as last time I came across this on 3 PCs it it was graphic card issues 1 re-seat and 2 needed replacing ( Dells suprisingly )

SO also to test, if you have spare GFX card use that too to troubleshoot the graphic card as the issue and rule it in or out as cause.
