power supply issue

ive talked about this before and came to an answer which.. cannot really happen so i'll explain it again..

my psu gives out 4 molex power connectors
1 to my hd
2 to my cdrw\dvdrw
the one left goes thru 2 power run throughs with fans and then is used for my led light on my case

i recently bought a new x800 pro video card which requires a molex connector..
i would get a molex splitter off of ebay but the account there is at 2.50 or so

so i need to find a way to somehow get power to my card.. by macgyvering it into a fan connector or unplugging it or what..
any suggestions or places i can get a very inexpensive solution

Failing that, why dont you just pinch the connector from your CDRW drive as your DVDRW should read and write all you need for those purposes.....you dont really need two optical drives unless you wanna rip from disc to disc!

Hey there. When I bought an ATI X800GTO, it came with a tri-splitter.....A molex extender with 2 (instead of 1) power connections. I noticed that I had to use it because my molex power cables weren't long enough to reach the video card. Check that your cables can even reach the vid card. Second, make sure that your PSU is powerful enough to run the vid card. With only 4 total molex connections I would expect that it is not very powerful. A molex splitter is all I can think of to solve this issue because you have to keep the HDD and DVD drives with power and you can't just "MacGyver" those like fans (I have cut off one way connectors on fans and attached extenders on them as to get another connector). It may just be best to go down to the local computer shop and buy a splitter. They are inexpensive and there would be no long wait like E-bay (I know...you want that card running now!).

 

yeah i do lol even though it hasnt arrived yet, i would spend at least 3 days just looking at it and saying wow thats a good card.

my dad has a 480 that i'm going to check if it has 5
if not im buying a lot of 10 molex splitters for 5.50 off ebay lol

 

Yeah right there. I had the very same problem and solved it this way, though there is a limit to how many devices your psu can sustain.
