Hi, I am dealing with multiple infected computers and even though this computer has not been having major symptoms like the others, it has slowed some and seemed like it might have had a browser connection hijacker that would siphon off my internet speed. I'm not sure about that since I'm a novice at all this, but I wanted to make sure this computer was clean and if it wasn't to get it that way. There was an infected external HD hooked up to this computer (unknowingly of course) and so I'm taking steps to ensure this virus doesn't spread any further. Logs attached.

Oh, also, I did have some issues running the scans and I'm not sure if it was because of an infection or just because of my computer (Vista) setup. I did manage to get them all to scan, but I did the ComboFix twice because when I went to do the MGtools afterwards I realized there was no internet connection and it would stall at the DNS check. So, I followed all the steps to reinitialize the connection including rebooting and when that failed I did the UAC registry disable (even though I'd already done it the way described in the README) and rebooted again, then ran ComboFix again so there are two logs, and then successfully ran MGtools. Thanks so much, and no rush on this one since there aren't major annoyances, just whenever. :)

I am not finding any malware in your logs. You do, however, need to uninstall:
Lavasoft Ad-Watch Live! Anti-Virus --Unless you have already done so. Ad-aware is also useless, so that too should be uninstalled.

    We can clean up a few things;
Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I have tried uninstalling Adaware multiple times over the past few days. Each time I meet with a different error message and the warning that the Ad-Aware installation package has stopped working. Other error messages have included things about not having permission, or various other odd things that I haven't understood. AdWatch Live doesn't even show up in the Add/Remove list to give me the opportunity to uninstall, and I've deleted the program files for all Lavasoft programs. I realize that doesn't uninstall them, but it made it appear as if it had uninstalled, just didn't delete all the files in the program files folder (not a nice thing with software that doesn't completely uninstall). So, I may have messed things up there. If you have any other suggestions I'm willing to give it a shot. :) I'm attaching two screen shots of the error messages.

Thanks for the instructions on the registry fixes, I'll work on that and post the outcome. Thanks again !

That's a great tool for uninstalling ! Thanks for sharing. Successfully uninstalled all Lavasoft software and related files and registry keys. I don't know how much they were slowing the system down, but I feel better know they're gone. :)

Also did the registry fix you prescribed and it said that it was integrated successfully. So far things seem to be somewhat faster and the connection speed seems to be slightly improved also. I've not had as many instances of streaming video playback halting due to the browser initiating too many connections or transferring data while I'm not doing anything else. Mainly I'm just glad that the infected external HD didn't infect this computer ! So, thank you for all your help, and unless there's something else I need to do I'll continue with your clean up process.
