Printer~can't reinstall

Good Day,

Problem with Printer.
Received message - user intervention required printer offline
We do not have a network, we have a single computer.
We called Canon re: the printer Pixma MP450 and was advised to uninstall and reinstall, After 5 attempts the hardware (printer) is not recognized. The software is installed, but when we plug the printer in to the USB port it can not be found or recognized.

Please help. We use our printer for our business.

Also wanted to add that when we start our computer we get the message New Hardware Found, but it doesn't say what hardware. When we hit cancel we get the message SURegCreateKeyfailed
