    Hi all.....new here...
I have an emachine w4685 ...running windows xp home with service pak 1.
I use to be able to burn dvd's until recently....I deleted all of my old nero files and have downloaded the demo nero 7. I can burn audio cds but no dvd's....I think it's something techincal but can't figure it out...I have been burning shows for years....even tried ashampoo and it does the same thing...audio cds yes.but dvd videos no....I've reloaded the driver for my nec dvd rw nd 2500a...please help if you can and thanks...I have also sent the log error and tool kit to nero hoping to get an answer----thanks

And you've only had the problem since using Nero 7's trial?

I would recommend that you try DVD Decrypter to rip and burn disc images. This is a fantastic freeware app that has done wonders for me.

Then, if you need to compress this image to single-layer disc size, you can use DVDShrink, which will spit out ANOTHER image that is less than 4.7 GB in size.

Additionally, if you are converting AVIs, then you could try AVI2DVD, which will convert the file into an image that you can burn with DVD Decrypter.

From my experience, the right software makes all the difference when it comes to backing up my movies.

well I had trouble trying to burn a show a little bigger than one disk and someone mentioned the nero recode......so I updated and got that but stince I did that I haven't been able to burn dvd's since......it might be something techincal I need to change but it's driving me crazy...I've been burning shows for years and years and now this....after the upgrade didn't work I deleted all that nero stuff and tried ashampoo but the same thing

    burning dvd problem .......

I posted this earlier somewhere I'm really new here so I'll be to the point.
    I have an emachines w4685 with a nec dvd_rw nd 2500a ---cd/ dvd burner.
I have been burning dvd video ts files for years. After burning a show the other day on the nero express 6 (that's what the computer came with) I couldn't burn any more dvd's......I can watch them....record and play audio disks too......but it won't burn a dvd. Then being frustrated I thought I would have to upgrade my nero........which I did to nero 7 ....still couldn't burn.....then I tried to use ashampoo burning software and couldn't burn a dvd with tha either...so now I deleted the nero 7 and all the in cd stuff that was with it.....but I did save the the ner oinfo tool....and the file log if some one can check it out for me.

Can anyone help me please?????? or would it be better to buy a new combo burner ......install it ....and that solves my problem???

  7. ASUS

A new Burner will only solve the problem if infact your old is toasted.
I would uninstall all burning software.
Check Device manager for problems, if any, correct em.
Then I would reinstall Nero 6 then get all updates from Nero there is several.
Nero 7 many peoples are having problems, seems 7 is a bit buggy & bloated, I hear??? So I would skip that.
In the past Nero incd has been know to be problematic & or causing issues when DVD burning, I believe some updates had solved that
Then see if you can burn one

How come your not running SP2?

If the above suggestions fail, then go to Start, Run and type in regedit then OK.

    Find the following key,

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Delete both the Upper and LowerFilters value and reboot.

*Only work in the Registry if you have taken the necessary precautions and are confident in it's use*

I just heard some bad things with sp2........about a lot of things that don't work too good after installing it.....but I was thinking that the old burning might be toast

  10. Insomniac

    There's nothing wrong with SP2.

I've been using, and installing it on plenty of PC's, and it has run faultlessly.

The people that have problems, are those that have pre-existing conditions like Spyware and outdated drivers etc.

Back to the problem at hand, I suggested you check Device Manager, and try the Registry edit I posted.

I would llike to thank everyone who is trying to help me here........insomniac, I only see the lower filter in the registry....no upper

Then delete it and reboot, Windows will recreate it.

Have you tried other people's suggestions?
    -uninstall all burning software
    -reinstall Nero 6
    -check all devices/drivers
-install XP SP2(nothing wrong with it!) and all updates from MS site
-Install Nero updates (free & necessary)
Registry editting is dangerous, and it will not work if basic steps are not taken first.
