    Hi, I'm Jay, new here. Having a problem connecting to the Internet on my computer, I'm using a Netgear wireless adapter "WG111" model. On my Dell Dimension 5150. I am running Windows XP on my computer. I am trying to connect to my router, which is a Netgear (not sure on model), only information on the sitker was MAC:001E2A25FD0A, Serial: 1NJ381BE042E6 and then a random set of numbers: 272-10452-01. I did a CMD for ipconfig all and got these results;

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

My wireless connection has a WPA key (which I have checked several times and is correct).

My problem is that when I try to repair my wireless network connection, it gives me this error:

"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing IP address"

I have ran a Socket Fix, and an LSP fix, and have ran Microsoft fix it.

After running the socket fix, my computer automatically connected to the internet, and then went back off within a minute, giving me the same problem.

Any suggestions, or help would be much appreciated, thanks,
    Jay

You probably are in a catch22 situation. Your Wireless can not connect to the Router, and you can not remedy the situation because you can not connect to the Router.

Best is to connect with a wire and configure the Router as needed.

If you can not connect with a Wire, try to hard reset the Router. By doing so the Router revert to the Default setting and the security is Off. It might be that at default you'll be able to establish a Wireless connection.

The Default setting parameters should be in the Router's manual.

The repair attempts that you try would help if you can not establish a basic connection with the Router and assign an IP to the Wireless.

Your solution depends whether you are using Netgear software to control the WG111 or Windows?

You cannot have both running at the same time.

    start>run>

    type in "services.msc"

What is the status of the wireless zero service listed as?

So how did you install the drivers for the WG111?

Normally the Netgear software takes over with these.

many Wireless card install the Vendors Utility with the dirvers.

Look at the startup and male sure that the Netgear utility is not there.

This two free utils. (StartUp and Process Explorer) can help in making sure that it is not running and neutralizing it if needed.
