Problem Running MGTools

I am unable to get the MGLogs.zip to create. I have Windows XP and I have run everything else on the XP cleanup. The MGTools file did work, but no log. I tried running the GetLogs.bat but with no success. The DOS window pops up but goes away in an instant. Please advise.

The original problem was that I had actually paid for XP Antivirus 2010. It had locked me out of the internet and would not let anything run. I then paid them and was able to use the internet, but then I searched on the software to find out it was a scam.

Currently I am at the last step of the XP Clean up process and cannot get my log fro MGTools. I have uploaded the RRlog and the Combofix log. Things seem to be working, but I want to make sure. All of the AV, firewall, and auto update are disabled now.

Here are the other 2 logs I could get.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

The prompt didn't change to C:\MGtools and then the message for both commands was
The system cannot find the path specified.

That would indicate that you didn't download the MGTools.exe directly to your C:\ drive.

    Try it again:

Download the latest version of MGtools and save it to your root folder.

    C:\MGTools.exe

I downloaded it to C:\MGtools.exe the same issue came up. It runs and populates the MGtools folder, but I am unable to access the log.

What do you mean by you cant access the log? Does C:\MGLogs.zip not exist?

    Thats exactly right.

This seems to contradict what you said in the below previous message

If the folder was created, you should be able to change to it. Try again.

When you first open the command prompt window, what prompt do you see?

I open the command prompt. I input cd\MGtools, but the C:\MGtools> does not come up. I can run the program by double clicking it, but there is no MGlog.zip file created in the MGtools folder.

You need to input exactly what was given and that is cd \MGtools. Notice the space after the cd! Also please answer my question.

I was finally able to get MGtools to run on the command prompt. I restarted my computer and this time the prompt was C:\documents and settings\user>.
When I entered cd\MGtools C:\MGtools> came up and I ran the GetRunKey and ShowNew.

There isn't a .zip file, if you need it.

Here are the 2 .txt documents that came up.

How will I know if my computer is safe? I really don't want my information stolen.

Not correct! It is right where the procedures said it would be. I can see it in your logs. It is C:\MGlogs.zip However, do not attach it yet.

Also, please don't rename the log files from their default names.

From the command prompt window, get back into the C:\MGtools folder and run the below command:

    GetLogs

This should run all of the scans that are part of MGtools and create a full C:\MGlogs.zip file.

The logs you have attach thus far have not shown any malware problems. Why were you running the READ & RUN ME to begin with?

The logs do show that you are running multiple antivirus programs which means you need to uninstall one of them immediately as stated at the very beginning of the READ & RUN ME. You have Avira and Authentium installed and running. Authentium is part of the full suite you installed from Verizon. You must uninstall Avira if you plan on keeping the Verizon suite.

I was running the READ ME RUN THIS because I had the XP Antivirus 2010 on my computer. I had actually paid to get the "service" so that the windows would stop popping up telling me about all of the security problems my computer had. After access to the internet was going I googled the XP Antivirus 2010 and saw that it was probably malware and I needed to get it off b/c I didn't want them monitoring my banking info or the like.

I did get a Hijack this error message when running MGtools. Error #5 invalid procedure call or argument. I pressed yes to submit. It finished running.

Attached is the MGtools.zip. Am I in the clear with XP Antivirus?

What are the steps I need to take to get back to normal (toggle system restore?) and are there any things I should continue to do to make my computer faster, besides getting more RAM? Which is the best Antivirus system to maintain?

Am I safe now? Should I do the steps on Step#4 Toggle System Restore and Step #5:Keeping your computer safe and secure? Please advise I would like to go back to normal. I understand about the Verizon securtiy suite.

    Your logs are clean!

If you did this then you need to cancel that credit card immediately since you don't want these people to have your credit card info. It is bad enough that they have your name.

Attached is the MGtools.zip. Am I in the clear with XP Antivirus?

This and multiple antivirus programs are your main problems.

There is no clear cut "best" and they change frequently. What is the best one month, may not be the best the next month. However Avira, is definitely better then Authentium that you got from Verizon and you MUST uninstall one of these immediately!!!!! You still have both installed and this is another big reason for a slow pc and they will conflict with each other and actually reduce the effectiveness of your protection.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
