Problem updating to Windows 10

I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 last night from Windows 7. The download began with restarting my laptop. It is still restarting. It never went any further and I don't know where to go from here. Any advice?

Hopefully you have everything backed up.
Try this list:

if none of that worked you may have to download the USB install of Win 10 and do a clean install, preferably on a new HDD. Or put the old HDD in another system and you should be able to salvage some files. Then clean install on it.
