I have a problem with Windows Update. A friends Computer was brought to me and I cannot get past the Windows Update splash screen when I try to manually install updates Windows XP SP2, IE-7 Active X control settings are correct in IE. What happens is that there is no information bar pop-up to click, and when I adjust the active x settings to enable instead of prompt, I get the same message/splash screen that says to click on the information bar to download active x control. But there is no information bar, and with the settings set to enable instead of pronpt, there should not be an information bar anyway.

Any Ideas? I tried running dial -a-fix, but that didn't help.

    Thanks.

In the Tools (hammer icon) of Dial-A-Fix is an option to repair permissions. Do that.
Is there another toolbar in IE? Google's popup blocker and/or Yahoo's have both kept the information bar from happening for me; uninstall them.
