problem with connecting projector

    I have an Acer travelmate 4230 running windows professional XP. When i try to connect to a projector i cannot get the laptop to detect the projector.
    Have tried the hotkeys but it wont respond. This is the case on several different projectors.
    When i boot up the initial windows splash screen shows then disappears.

    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
