Problem with older p4 gateway

Ok I've got an older gateway on my hands that wont boot from a cd. I've tried to cange the boot order but when I get in there it says the cd is the first boot, but inside the other boot menu it says boot master ide1, which is the hard drive. When I change this to ide2 where the drive is it says no os found. Now a little bit about this system, its a 1.4 ghz p4 with the big chip (looks like a pIII on steroids not 472. it has RD ram if that helps you id it. I've switched boot disks, I've switched cd-roms, I've swapped IDE channels. nothing nothing nothing. lets here some ideas.

 

New Development, IT seems Gateway and dell don't get along. The OEM XP home disk I use to reinstall xp on computers with oem stickers is from Dell. The gateway computer doesn't recoginze the disk. Now I tried to fool it by installing to the first restart point on another computer and then putting the drive back in to no avail. I got the BSOD. SOOO I'm running out of ideas.
