    I,

Couple days ago I was infected with two virus/malware. Those are:
    Generic Downloader.x!s and Generic Rootkit.d!rootkit...

I have on my computer McAfee virus scan Enterprise 8.5. When I first got infected my anti-virus told me that they were blocked and deleted, but after a scan i realise they were not.

After some Research on McAfee forum I tried to boot in safe mode and to perform a scan there. After that I went back in Normal mode, but the problem is still there.

The next suggested step was to post on this forum the log file of hijackthis... It is in attachment.

Hopefully you will be able to help me before I need to format my disk.

    Thanks a lot

    M

    P.S. I have Windows XP with SP3

Some more explanation than from my previous message.

What I was doing was downloading a CODEC required to watch a video file. The problem started two days ago.

It was basically screwing my google search. Also when I wanted to go on my hotmail via the e-mail link in live messenger and it did not allow me..

Publicity on respected news site was also strange. And last I was not able to Create REstore point on my computer.

    That's about sums it up.

So I followed every measure you suggested, but i'm simply not sure if the problem is solved completely so that is why i'm sending you the various file.

    Thanks for your time

    M.

    1. Please go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the below softwares:

Messenger Plus! Live <--- it may be a messenger enhancer with bells and whistles, however it's a frequent cause of lop infections.

    Java(TM) 6 Update 11 <--- old version of Java

    2. We need to remove a dead BHO. Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    3. Now reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    4. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    IMPORTANT:

Is McAfee still detecting problems now after completing all of the above final steps?

    Thanks a lot Kestrel13!

    Everything works perfectly fine.

There is onlyn one further question that I have. I your last post you refer to LOP infections... And I was wondering what are those?

    Thx in advance
