I've been using the spyware tutorial (by MA) to search and remove potential spyware bugs. I can't seem to connect to the internet to do my online scans whilst in safe mode - am I doing something wrong?

    Note, I'm running windows XP.

How do you connect to the internet? Dial-up, DSL, or Cable?

    Hi Chaslang -
I use a 256 kb/s broadband system supplied by my local cable service.

You need to make sure you are choosing Safe mode with networking. See the link Blajy has given you from Symantec, it will show another method using msconfig to get to safe mode and you will see an option in one of the figures for network (to the right of the red circle around safe mode).

See if that helps. We have had cases were people choose safe mode with networking and still cannot access the internet from safe mode, but I believe these cases were for people having dial-up connections.

That's fine now - had no problems choosing safe mode with networking.

    Cheers!

Okay! But you said you were running thru the spyware tutorial. Are you having any problems with spyware that you need help with?

So - I have dial-up. Can you actually access the internet from safe mode using dial-up...I haven't been able to.

(I'm dropping into obenga's thread since the problem's solved...)

Not as far as I know! I don't believe the drivers required for your modem are being loaded.
