Problems downloading new Windows Defender

I am running XP and IE7.
Since the new release of WD I have been trying to download it from the MS site and from here. Everytime I try I get the download box appear and I click "save" or "run" (have tried both options) but nothing then happens! Nothing downloads, the progress bar does not move and there is no time ticking down. The box just hangs like that until I close it or shutdown.

Please note I am a computer idiot ....... so if you have any advice or tips please put them VERY simply!!
