    Encountered this bug yesterday while skimming through some website. I was surprised since I didn't even download anything but I guess viruses are just sneaky like that.

    Anyway, I read through the READ ME post and got all the necessary scans and did them accordingly. I just wanted to double check if my system is indeed clean since I'm no expert and don't comprehend the logs. I'm attaching them all and please inform me if I need to do further scans. Thank you in advance.

    Why am I not seeing any AV software in your add/remove programs list?

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\documents and settings\jimBo2\Local Settings\Application Data\ivikamika.dll
    c:\windows\system32\ejggvle.dll
    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\jimBo2\Local Settings\Application Data\juqtekiyp
    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\hyqrs]
    "ServiceDll"=-

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    [IMG]
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Here are the logs requested, I had AVG but I took it out because it's slowing my system. Suggestions are appreciated or I guess I can scan through the other threads :) Thanks again

    One more time, and this time, please boot into normal mode.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!

    It still exists. Let's try a different approach.

    Download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract+ avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * -Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\Avenger.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    It looks like that took care of it. What issues are you still having, if any?

    The user infected is my limited account one. After all the cleaning, after loading, two windows pop up saying

    [Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\jimBo2\Local Settings\Application Data\cdlapmdi.dll The specific module could not be found. ]

    and also this

    [ Error loading C:\DOCUME~1\jimBo2\LOCALS~1\Temp\mcpft.dll The specific module could not be found. ]

    However, when I log into my admin user, I don't see any pop ups.

    Also, on my limited account user, I noticed on the desktop there's a notepad doc named hs_err_pid108, it was created the same time I got the virus. I refuse to open it as I fear that the virus might come back. :confused

    The you need to run MGTools.exe on the limited account so we can see what is happening. Also run SAS and MBAM on that account.

    I ran the scans, attaching the logs. I tried to run MGTools.exe and it just kept on saying Access denied. It won't let me attach the log saying I have already attached it in this thread. This sucks but I won't let this virus get to me. :)

    A bit of a problem, on my limited account user, I can't use the IE. It keeps on saying can't display webpage however I know for a fact that I have internet connection. And I can use my firefox. I even redownloaded the IE8.

    I just found out too that on my admin, it only displays the home page but if I try to go to any other website it says the same thing, can't display webpage.

    Are there any other scans available?

    We can have you create this disc that you can then boot to ( after going into the bios and changing the boot order to allow the cd drive to be the first device):

    Kaspersky Rescue Disk.

    I'm using an hp netbook, I don't have an optical drive. If there is no other way around this. I'll look for someone that I can borrow a portable one I guess :-o

    When in your limited account, can you navigate to the C:\MGTools folder and right click on C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file? Does it give you the option to "Run as Administrator"? IF so, do it that way and see if you cant get me a log.zip.

  18. devil_jester

    devil_jester Private E-2

    I can navigate to that file but unfortunately it doesn't give me the option to run as admin. I'm open to just deleting this user and just creating a new one. Or would that be just the same thing?

  19. TimW

    That might be your easiest alternative. If you do that, you can open two explorer windows and drag/copy any software into that user account. Let me know what you want to do.

    I think I will just delete that limited user and create another one. Better than struggling with the current issue. I don't have any important infor/software in the limited user anyway. As long as the admin which is my main user is clean, I'm happy. I will update you on what happens. Thanks! ;)

    Yes, probably the easiest thing to do. Do let me know how that goes and if you still have any issues afterward.

    I just went ahead with deleting the limited account and created a new one. So far so good, no pop-ups, no weird files on the desktop and I can use IE again.

    Is it safe to assume that I can continue on with the cleaning process? I know scanning wasn't the last step.

    Good to know.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
