    a guy I know recently put it in a 6600 GT and is getting worse frame rates than with an ATI 9200. I am confused because the 6600 is a step up from the 9200. Here is his set up:

    CPU = AMD athelon 1800+
    Ram = 1 gb patriot series
    Gfx = That 6600gt
    Sound = Sound Blaster Live!
    VIA KT600 Chipset Based KT6V Series
    Windows XP

    I had him update video drivers, he could not find the right bios to update his computer. I would appreciate some help!

    He is being bottlenecked by his cpu,does he also get big stutters at regular intervals:confused:

    His power supply may also be underpowered 6600gts are very power hungry and will trip to very low fps if there isnt enough power,at any time did he recieve a warning message the card was going to throttle due to not having enough power,post the brand and model of the power supply he currently has along with everything written on the side

    When switching from ATI to Nvidia a driver cleaning program must be run,use this and install the latest drivers from nvidia,follow the instructions in the readme to the letter

    thank you for your reply! I sent an e-mail to ask what kind of power supply he has, and ask if he has any stuttering regularly. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks again for your help, and it's good to be here!

    I had a similar rig with an MSI motherboard. (AMD1800+)

    I flashed the motherboard bios which then allowed the board to take an AMD 3000+ BArton. I bought a brand new OEM one on eBay and am as happy as larry. It's no world beater but at least I get some good framerates at medium settings on source games etc.

    Most of the components in a PC draw their current form the 12v line,post 15

    If you look into the detailed specs of a power supply you will see some ratings for the power supply you posted

    Output +3.3@30A,+5V@55A,+12V1@19A,+12V2@19,A-12V@1A,+5VSB@2.5A

    The importasnt ones are ,+12V1@19A,+12V2@19 this gives a total of 38amps total of the 12v line which is very good,I have heard of roswell PSU's and thier pretty good not as good Antec,OCZ,enermax,Tagan ect. if you get a really good deal it wouldnt be too bad a choice,if you want the best one of the other brands are preferrable

    To check what your current psu has read the spec sheet on the side if it has anywhere near 18amps need for a 6600gt I'd be suprised,on the parts you posted the cpu is too weak for that video card,especially if you like online gaming you need around 4000+,I'd go with a 3700+ and a 7800
