Processes on Vista (how many)???

Windows Vista Home Premium.
Core 2 Quad Q6600
3GB 667mhz DDR Corsair

I have 78 Processes running.!!
Under XP Pro I had 38 running with the same programs installed.

Whats going on?

I'm not a stranger to messing with settings or the registry or customising everything.

How can I lower this number?

Or is it just Vista??

It is probably just a normal Windows bloat.
Try killing off anything that is not required to run at startup. If this machine was purchased with Vista installed you may have a lot of the manufacturers bloat running in the background as well.
I normally un-install most of this stuff, as it is normally not required or of any use.

 

My Vista manual lists 128 'common' services.

 

I'm running vista ultimate 64 bit. I have a total of 11 processes running. No, I did not use vlite.

What processes are ye running?

 

Note, this is for SP1 only.

 

But, IMHO, I'd not tweak the services, until after sp1 has been installed. Just in case, issues come about.
