    Hello,

I am reloading windows XP and I didn't record my Product ID to enter it in the new "clean install" version I'm now loading.

Is there anyway to get it off the XP install disk?

    HELP!

    Thanks!

No! I don't have the product key written down anywhere. I've looked through all my stuff and can't find it.

I thought for sure it would be on the XP cd somewhere. Anyway, that's what I need.

    Thanks anyway.

You know its wrong to ask for keys and stuff like that on here.
    Rules are rules...
In that case ring up microsoft, if its a legaly obtained copy they will have no problem with issuing uou a new key.
    Good luck. :D
P.s to install a platform e.g xp you need to put a serial in otherwise it just wont go...

If you have an OEM computer the key is usually located on the side or back of the tower..look for the sticker. If it's an XP copy you bought outright the key will be located on the CD case or on the cardboard jacket it came in....there should have been no need to write it down unless you ditched the original packaging or have an illegal copy, which is a no no. I personally don't know of another way to retrieve the key if you have already formated the computer but someone else may.

    Abbysue and bailmeout,

No! This isn't an "illegal" copy. I'm helping a neighbor by doing a clean install and she didn't give it to me and it wasn't on the OEM sleeve of the XP cd either. I just thought rather than have her (a complete novice) call MS (have you ever had to do this? It takes forever) that I could get it off the CD istead.

    Sorry I asked.

No need to be sorry you asked...we just need to state the stuff about illegal copies to cover our butts b/c many do in fact come here asking for keys or workarounds for illegal copies..no one was accusing you of anything.:)

If it's OEM than your neighbor should have the CD key affixed to the computer tower...have them look for the sticker....some put it on the side, others on the back. And yes, I've had to call MS about my copy of XP...twice actually...I was on the phone less than 5 minutes both times..Maybe I was one of the lucky ones?:)
