I have creative mp3 burning program. The CD/DVD burner that came with my computer does not work. I replaced it with a Samsung CD/DVD burner. When I try to burn MP3 from creative, it is only recognizing the burner that came with the computer. How can I disconnect the burner that came with the computer and get it to recognize the Samsung. Thank you in advance for all your help. Also, can you recommend free software for editing DVDs or should I stick with Nero. I haven't tried it yet.

    Thank you,

    Wadda

you say you replaced it?? or did you just add the new one along with the old one? if that's the case you need to set the jumpers of the drive(s) correctly... There should be some documentation with your new drive on how to do that...One should be set for Master, and one for slave. Or if you don't need both, make sure that you disconnect the cables from the old one.

I am not too knowledgable about settings. How do I set the burner. I tried in several places but it reverts to the E: drive. In creative it only shows the E:drive.

Thank you for working with me.

the drive letter (in this case E: ) is not specific to your old burner, if you took it out and put a new one in. Drive letters are assigned as basically whatever letter comes next, hence c: usually being your harddrive and letters assigned in order after that. like i said if you took out the old one, and put in a new one, most likely it will still be assigned the drive letter E: . So actually, in your burning program, it will be the E: drive that you want to burn to.

Now, if you didnt actually put the new one in yet, you need to follow the directions that came with the drive. If you don't have any, please let us know what model it is so we can better help you out.

My burner is now an external Samsung CD-Rom SC-148 C. My old burnere is still in the computer but doesn't burn any longer. I can still see the D and E drives for the burners in the computer. The new burner is the F drive. I hope this information helps you.

    Thank you,

Did any software come with your new drive? A lot of OEM burning software (packaged with drives) will only work with that drive, and will not work if you add another. I know I had a copy of Nero that was like that.

If you're not stuck on using that software you may want to look into something like InfraRecorder.
