puter go slow

    ps when it did its thing, it came up with three different error boxes that said press to continue, so i did. :)

    Please follow standard cleanup procedures as given below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

    Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.


    After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:



    [​IMG] Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    [​IMG] Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    [​IMG] Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

    [​IMG]Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    [​IMG]Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    [​IMG] Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).

    cant do any of that as puter wont work lol. cant download or update. i think SPD and theefool are trying to take care of this mess. much aloha

    LaurieB,

    You need to explain in this thread you exact problems. Also indicate, if your PC is actually bootable (if not, where did the HJT log come from).

    We have no idea what the below is supposed to mean:

    yes i can boot it.
    its just going so slow i cant download, or do anything much.
    SPD and theefool managed to transfer HJT by somesort of shear magic.
    when HJT did its scan/logfile thing, a little box came up saying 'error in .......'
    "press yes to continue". that happened three times in quick succession at the begining of the scan/logfile and then no more. i could do it again and capture the boxes with screen hunter?
    i think firefox is getting even slower.
    when i tried to reach this page on MG just now i was redirected to "jinx - gamer geek hacker site" ?????
    also remember that i have had trouble downloading updates on antivirXP for a couple of weeks now. we put it down to the antivir rearranging things their end.
    also two new icons have appeared on my desk top. one for a free i pod, and one for PC repair tool. (although that might be something SPD sent, but i dont think so) i havnt opened them.

    good morning guys, its a beautiful day here. i cannot thank you all enough for the kindness, patience, positive vibes, time and effort. i will be hovering for most of the day so anything i can do/ anything i can tell you etc. i will do as imediately as i can. much aloha

    well i just reran HJT and the error boxes didnt appear this time, so i really dont know what to say about it. should have captured them at the time. :(

    Laurie the other night I sent you HijackThis, Hoster and Winsock XP Fix, using YIM's file transfer.

    There are some more files I want to send you using Yahoo Messenger. They are LSP-Fix, Explorer XP, Ewido, RkFiles Tool, Qoologic Tool, Pocket Killbox, and WinPFind. Some of these you probably won't need to use, but better to have them if needed.

    You appear to have some Hijacker issues that aren't shown in your HJT log.

    Let me know when you are ready.

    OK, Laurie the first thing I want you to do is go into Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall anything you didn't install, don't recognize, or no longer need.

    You can uninstall anything from Viewpoint, Weatherbug, MyWeb, MyWebSearch, MyFunWeb, My Search, SurfSideKick, SurfSideKick2, SurfSideKick3; if it is on your system. Also uninstall anythig from Kazaa, Kazaa Lite, Bearshare and like programs if they are on your system.

    the only one of those i had was kazaa lite. which i have unintalled. and shoppers hotbar whateever that is.

    OK, since you've probably shut down and restarted a couple of times since you posted you HijackThis log, please post a fresh log as an attachment.

    Are you able to run any of the On-line scan from the sticky, either in Safe mode w/ networking or Normal Mode?

    Actually the log did show the below:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1C008B14-92D4-4FAA-88F1-F52D6C9542F3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4764C72F-45A7-43C7-B89C-12A7171FA46C} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxskapi.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8E13DDE1-E013-47ec-9C4C-27C2F78BDD26} - (no file) <--- this is from a Trojan Downloader and is related to the req.dll file.
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: req - C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dll (file missing)

    And personally I would dump all the MiniClip stuff.

    Locate Pocket Killbox and unzip it into its own folder, you will need to use this after you complete the following:

    Run HijackThis and click Do a system scan only button, next select the following:
    Now click-on the Fix checked button. Exit HijackThis.

    Now run Pocket Killbox, and do the following:
    Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click OK.

    Run Killbox.exe. Paste the below filenames into KILL BOX one at a time. Check mark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click NO...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click YES and it will reboot. Note many of the file list below may not exist but we need to check for them anyway
    If Killbox does not reboot or you get a Pending Operations type error message just reboot your PC yourself.

    Now boot into SAFE MODE

    Open Windows Explorer navigate to and DELETE the following:
    Now run CCleaner. Goto C:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

    Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

    - Ewido Security Suite

    • Install ewido security suite
    • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will have a window come up. One of the buttons on the left is to Update. Click the Update button.and then Start the Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • After it completes the update, click the Scanner button
    Now exit Ewido. Now print the below instructions or save them locally because I want you do have no browsers opened and also have no connection to the internet (unplug your cable) while doing the below.

    Okay, reboot into safe mode and follow the steps below. (If you have any problems at all trying to get into safe mode to complete these steps, just run them in normal boot mode and make sure you tell me when you come back.)

    Open up Ewido and do the following:

    • Click on Scanner
    • Then click Settings
    • Under What to Scan? Select Scan every file
    • Then click OK
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.
    • Let the program scan the machine
    While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files that are infected. Leave the defaults selections (to Remove and backup) and click OK. To save yourself some time, you can select Perform action with all infections and then click OK. With the option to scan every file, a lot of cookies will be removed.

    Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop or anyplace you will be able to find it to upload here.
    Reboot into normal mode and reconnect to the internet.

    Now Post the Ewido log as attachment.

    Time to try an on-line scan.

    Please run Panda Online Scan. After the scan attach the log to your next post. Also please follow the below:

    1 - Please EXTRACT all files from Qoologic Tool to its own folder - C:\Program Files\QoologicFinder . Then, DoubleClick Find-Qoologic.bat to run the tool. It should produce a log - Please attach that with your next post!

    2 - Please EXTRACT all the files form RKFiles Tool to its own folder named C:\Program Files\RKTOOL. Then, Please boot to SAFE MODE and DoubleClick rkfiles.bat to run the tool. Let it run and then, when it finishes, look for a log at C:\Log.txt and please attach that log.

    Now come back here and post all three logs as attachments and a fresh HJT log. You will have to do 2 posts to post all 4 logs.

    turned everything off last night. this morning both the IE and firefox seem to be working at speed. tried to download antivir updates, no go. couldnt connect to server. tried to download spybot update, no go. got this. i will try panda and see what happens. good morning its another beautiful day.

    Spybot you'll just have to try different servers, the checksum error has fairly common lately.

    AntiVir seems to be having problems with their servers lately. If you are using the Personal version. You may want to do a manual update available here at Major Geeks or you may want to consider change AV applications.

    panda wouldnt work the first time, but rebooted and it worked the second time. (yeah) took a long time to go through it (about 15mins) but seemed to be zipping through the files at speed.

    ps. there was already more stuff protecting my puter than there was stuff to protect. there are now more tools trying to find out why that protection failed than there was protection than there was stuff to protect. if you see what i mean. just so you know, all of the stuff like cameras, PSC, etc, were bought from new and i have all the discs. a clean install would not bring the world to an end. but wouldnt be so much fun :)

    Use the computer for a little bit, open and close some programs. Surf the net, and if everything seems to be working fine then you are cured.

    You may want to start a new thread in software, inquiring into the best software/tools for locking down your system to keep those unwanted web sites from being accessed.
