Hi just bought a Quad core Q6600 and ran cpuid.

It shows a core speed of 1598.0 mhz..
    Shouldnt this be 2.4 mhz?

HELP me understand this Please guys

    Cheers

cpu throttles back when not being used cpuz doesnt stress the cores so they stay at 1600 until needed. keeps temps down at idle. Hope that helps

Well it helps me decide NOT to buy a quad core anyway rolleyes

So a CPU with a theoretical combined processing speed of 9.6 GhZ if the software supports it, that is, only runs at 6.4 most of the time?

I guess I'll be sticking to dual core for a while then

actually it only does that at idle to save power :) as soon as need it the processor ramps right up, multi tasking is a breaze and gaming is awesome too. also dual cores do the same thing :)just about every processor you get does this but it can be changed to not do this in bios I believe
