My local area connection icon for my internet connection shows I am connected at 100 Mbps----this connection is my "LOCAL AREA CONNECTION"

What I am finding strange is that there is also a connection enabled (which I JUST DISABLED)..........called "1394 Net Adaptor, saying it is (WAS) connected at 400 Mbps.

I have never seen this 1394 connection before. I am wondering what this 1394 is, and WHY it would be hogging all my bandwidth/speed???

NOTE: If I disable the LAN connection at 100 Mbps, and ENABLE the 1394, I cant get on line even if the icon shows that I am receiving signal. I get a Windows Explorer could not open the search page.

Any thoughts on this?? I am sure this is gravy to you guys.
    thanks in advance

    Pam

the 1394 is not hogging ur bandwidth in fact its using its own.. 1394 is a faster connection used mainily for external harddrives if u dont use it, it wont matter if its on or off

i see. However, does that mean if i hooked up an EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, that the external hard drive would be faster???

or is this basically for hardware like my digital camera, etc.

no your harddrive wouldnt be faster if hooked up externally, the 1394 is used for high-speed data ( external cd drives and so forth). not many devices use 1394 ports mot of them use USB. I have 1394 ports on all my computers and i have never used them... so in short.. for the average computer user 1394 does nothing and is useless i would just forget about it
