Question about file recovery

Can anyone recommend a program they might have used to recover lost Microsoft Word documents?

Thanks...son lost ALL his Word files recently...even took the hard drive to a computer geek and he couldn't find them. Will try this one. Thanks again!

 

How were they deleted?

We don't know...virus maybe as his subscription had run out. Could have been an accidental deletion...the shortcuts were still there but the documents themselves were gone. It's 5 years' worth of college projects and papers down the tubes if we can't find them.

 

It's too late now but in the future, he should be making data CDs/DVDs as hard copy backups for anything he thinks he might want.

Definitely! I backup my system, over 200GB's weekly. I lost about 80GB of data a few years ago and said "never again". I spend many hours backing up data, but I will not lose my data. I actually have two backups of my data.

 

If I knew the exact cause we might could troubleshoot why it occurred but I don't like to guess.

 

Just because the subscription ran out doesn't necessarily mean it was a virus, is this the only reason you suspect this?
