Question about networks?

My laptop is connected to about 5 different networks at a time and if I disconnected any of them they will all disable. I’m curios to why it’s doing this. I’m using an Ethernet cord to access the net.

-Just was wondering if there is some kind of fix to this or I should just leave it alone?

P.S - I’m using the schools connection that provided in my dorm. Guess I could ask the network folks in charge of all, but it’s late and wanted to ask here first. (I’m sure most peeps here know more than about this tech stuff) :)

where did you notice youre connected to 5 networks?

The bottom right icon that shows the connection when hovered over by the mouse. It will display random #'s,

example: network17 local area connection, network18 local area connection, network8 local area connection....

    try this
start - run - type cmd to open a command prompt. type ipconfig/all and let me know what it says. its normal to have a lot of stuff in there like tunnel adapters which are used for ipv6. since ipv6 isnt used yet, you dont have to worry about those. all that really matters in your case is the ethernet adapter which should have an ip address. way to check what interfaces you have ip addresses on is to just type ipconfig in command prompt without the /all switch.

well the solution ive found to work best for disabling ipv6 completely involves making changes to the windows registry. the change is safe to make and is reversible, but always backup your registry in case you make a mistake. this will get rid of all those tunnel adapters and will disable ipV6.

    To open the registry:
    start
    run
    type regedit
    hit enter

    To backup the registry:
with the registry open, click file
    export
    choose a backup location
    name the backup
At the bottom, choose All to backup the whole registry.
it'll take a quick minute to backup. just let it go until its done.

    To disable IPv6 completely:
navigate the path below in the registry

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents

The value can be the combination (logical or) of the follwoing values:
    1 Disable tunnel interfaces
    2 Disable 6to4
    4 Disable ISATAP
    8 Disable Teredo
16 Disable LAN and PPP interfaces
    32 Set preference of IPv4 over IPv6
    255 Disable IPv6 completely

youre going to want to edit the value of disabled components to 255 which will disable IPv6 completely.
