I would like to ask about this one:

"Animate Windows when minimizing and maximizing" - I always left this uncheck.
I don't know whats happening but it keeps on returning to be checked.

I do not need any animations with my OS so that it runs faster.

Sir chaslang redirected me here to ask.

    Thanks for the reply. ;)

On older computers - and even on my main one, because old habits die hard I usually do the following....

Set to best performance first - which removes all the checks

Then I re-tick the bottom two, so I keep the pretty blue taskbar and the icons on screen don't have a background.

It will have automatically jumped to custom settings by then and I've never known any come back after doing that, so maybe that's worth a try

Well after a new implementation of my system I guess it went back to be "checked" again.

I wonder how am I gonna solve this one? It keeps on turning back. :cry

I did not tried this one yet. I make my settings "Custom" because I need some of the configuration of my OS. All are ok but that one keeps on returning.

I just download the file but I can't "Copy" the files from C:\windows\system32\config. Error, saying it is used by the computer.

Editing Registry is a serious work I guess.

Tell me sir, what does this Software do? ;)

    Copy...what files?

This is a simple registry file that will change your settings to what you desire, instead of relying on the GUI.

Right click it, and instead of merge, hit edit.

You can see what it does.

    This files?

    copy c:\regbackup\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
    copy c:\regbackup\software c:\windows\system32\config\software
    copy c:\regbackup\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
    copy c:\regbackup\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
    copy c:\regbackup\default c:\windows\system32\config\default

Well, shouldnt be an issue, but this isnt a lifechanging edit, so just choose another method, like system restore.

    Ok sir.

I just enable my System Restore now because my pc was just cured from Malwares Yesterday.

    And ok, I'll try. ;)

Hmm, sounds like a group policy is in place.

    Is this XP Pro?

    More research, I must do.

    Yes sir, Windows XP Professional.

And this is the only computer I own in my room.

Alright, I think I got it this time.

Same thing as before. Unzip and merge.

Then test to see if the toggle works.

    A short explanation:

The toggle is controlled on what it does in the registry. Therefore, whether you check, or uncheck it, whether it enables, or disables, is controlled by the registry. If those values are tampered with, then the box stops unchecking. I only tested in one direction. I imagine if I changed a few other values, then it wouldnt have been able to be rechecked.

The registry file is a collection of various edits I made to reset those values back to default. Then I combined them (as its in more than one location) into a single file that can then be merged. I tested it on my own machine, and it does indeed work, at least in the scenario I described above.
