    Hello all,

I am posting because I have been working on this computer trying to get it ship shape for gaming, movies, surfing on the net freeze-free, etc. It has a Windows Millennium Edition operating system.

I have followed the first three steps (or attempted to) suggested cleaning procedure for Windows ME from this website. I was unable to run SUPERAntispyware program because it tells me that a device attached to the system is not functioning.

It also tells me that the program (SAS) expects a newer version of windows and to update my windows version. So I can't get any farther it seems with that program.

I ran the Spybot and nothing showed up. The problems I am having are unexplained shutdowns and internet freezing when I try to visit certain websites and anytime I attempt to open a video file or even my windows media 9, and specifically the following: www.myspace.com (before even logging in), www.yahoo.com (when I log into my email), and the following sites http://www.massrecycling.com/phoenixxavierre http://www.dariobusch.com/phoenixxavierre and http://myrealestategame.com/phoenixxavierre

I don't know what the problem is.

Can someone help me resolve the issues I'm having please? I have attached the MGlogs zip. Please let me know how to help you to help me!

    Phoenix

    Thank you ahead of time!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I'm sorry but you are likely not having problems with malware. You are just using a seriously outdate version of Windows and likely a very slow PC with limited hardware specs. It is really time for an upgrade.

If you cannot afford to upgrade to a new PC with a new version of Windows, you may want to consider reinstalling Windows ME since it was a seriously flawed operating system which became very flaky over a period of a few months after first installing. And as various Windows updates were installed, it became even more trouble some. If that does not help, see if you can find a copy of Windows 2000 to install since at least it has some support and is more reliable than Win ME.

You should uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now since it no longer supports Win ME either. The same has become true for many programs.

    Thank you for your response.

Do you have any idea where I can find a free copy of Windows 2000? Okay, so where is the appropriate place for me to post my problems I am having on these forums?

Here are some specifics regarding my system. My main problem is the system seizing up while I'm surfing, especially when it comes to certain websites, such as myspace, yahoo, and my affiliate websites, and any websites containing videos or windows media files, etc. Should my system be having these problems with the type that it is? The system has only been in use for not even a week.

No. If you do not have a licensed copy of your own, you would have to purchase one, but I'm not sure anyone sells it anymore. However your PC is still extremely slow by any standards.

Try the Software Forum. Click this:Software

Unknown as to what WinME with such a slow system and updated software like Windows Media Player 9 would run like.
