I have done everything in the Read & Run Me post and at first it appeared it had fixed my problem. Alas it has just returned within ten minutes.

Problem started 5/6 days ago with what i later thought to be Internet Security 2010. I seemed to solve that pretty quickly after a little research and everything seemed fine. But within a few hours all google links where being redirected. Learnt that this was probably caused by malware so installed Malwarebytes and on its first scan it found 20 infections which where removed and everything seemed ok. But again only for a short time. Same thing started happening again.

Ran numerous and various scans but everyone came back clean.

So i have just completed the steps laid out in Read & Run Me post and again for a about ten minutes it appeared to have worked but alas whatever is in there is really hanging on.

I do know that all my redirected links seem to start via an IP address - 83.133.124.109

So attached are my scan logs.

All but Combofix which i couldn't open. Was told Windows didn't recognise the program.

All help is greatly appreciated so thanks in advance.

    1. Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode, if you haven't done so already.

    2. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    3. Please do the following:

    1. Click on the Start button, then click on Run...

    2. In the empty "Open:" box provided, type cmdand press Enter
    • This will launch a Command Prompt window (looks like DOS).
    3. Copy the entire bold text below to the clipboard by highlighting all of it and pressing Ctrl+C (or after highlighting, right-click and select Copy).

    copy C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_mshdc.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16632_none_db337a442479c42c\atapi.sys %systemdrive%\ /y

    4. In the Command Prompt window, paste the copied text by right-clicking and selecting Paste.

    5. Press Enter.

    6. When successful, you should get the below message within the Command Prompt:
    • "1 file(s) copied"
    7. NOTE: If you didn't get this message, stop and tell me first. Executing any following instructions with avenger are dependent upon this file being successfully copied.

    8. Exit the Command Prompt window.

    ------------------------------
    4. Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    5. Also delete all files in the below bold folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    • C:\Windows\TEMP
    • C:\Users\craig\AppData\Local\Temp

    6. Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop
    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v

    • Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply.

    7. Are you now able to run Combofix? If so attach the log it creates into your next reply.

    8. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from avenger. the log from TDSSKiller and the log from Combofix if you were indeed successful in running it.

    9. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now! Are you still being redirected?

Kestrel 13 many many thanks for taking the time to reply and help me.

After posting my thread i noticed that Malwarebytes Quaratine hadn't been emptied so i did that then just shut the laptop down. Started it up this morning to run through your post and it everything seemed to be working!

So i have spent the day clearing up unused and unwanted programs and sorting out the start up programs and it is now working better than i think it ever has!

Read & Run Me must have worked and it was my slip up by not noticing the Malwarebytes quarantine.

Should i leave the process there or is it best for me to carry on and complete your further intsructions?

Again thank you very much for your time. It is greatly appreciated!!!!

Attach all of the logs I requested anyway if you don't mind. :) And then more than likely I will be giving you final steps to complete.

    Thanks

I know you said things were running fine in your last post but I sure did want you to complete all the above before I give you the all clear.

I DID have an error, I apologise. :)

Continue with my instructions in post 6, but where it says:

    Drivers to delete::

Take off one of the colons ::

so it only has one and carry on.

    Hey again.

    Those steps are now complete.

Attached are logs from Combofix, which after a few attempts did run for me, TDSS Killer and MG. I can't find a log from Avenger.

I ran it and all appeared fine but on reboot i got a blue screen and a system repair box saying the computer had failed to restart and was being repaired. When it did eventually restart all trace of Avenger was gone.

That you for instruction today and i look forward to hearing from you again!

Let's just do this, and then you should be all set for final instructions:

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a file and clear up from avg
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\users\craig\AppData\Local\prvlcl.dat

    Folder::
    C:\$AVG
    c:\programdata\avg9
    c:\program files\AVG

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Do the redirects continue or did you find that after using TDSSKiller that all was well again?

    Afternoon.

Just completed those combofix instructions and the log is attached.

I no longer get redirected. Did very briefly yesterday for a few minutes just before running though your instructions but as i say that was for just a few minutes.

Certainly seems that i am no longer being redircted.

Anything further i should now do?

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
