Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the ATI Radeon X700 Pro...I don't want to spend 400 bucks on an X800xt or whatever, and I just got a new computer with PCI-E and had to sell my old 9800pro. I have HL-2 and the 9800 pro ran it great. Just want to get an opinion. Thanks in advance!

I've never owned a 9800 pro, but I have the X700 Pro and I have no problems running Half Life 2 at full settings. So far, I've been pretty impressed with it since its around $200. I ran 3D Mark 2005 and scored around 6000 with it, which is average for a gaming machine...

    Hope that helps :)

    you mean 3dmark 03 right?

If I were you I would get a 6600gt, they are around $200, and rock.

    (FYI I get about 7700 in 3dmark03)

For most users, the X700 Pro and 6600 GT are excellent chips, and you would not be making a mistake buying either.

I still have a slight preference towards the Nvidia, especially at higher resolutions and detail settings, but it really depends on your setup and use, and there is very little between them.

Mellowman: I did mean 3DMark05. Why do you ask?

Insomniac: yah, I probably would have gone with the Nvidia, but through my work, I got the X700 Pro for $120, so I went with that.

your x700pro rules then, tom's hardware (i know they don't overclock but) says they bench under 3000 in 3dmark 05, what's your secret? or is tom way off base? I really don't know.

    Who cares about benchmarks anyway?

Are you going to be able to tell the difference in real use? NO.

People get so worried about frame rates and artificial benchmarks when it doesn't make the slightest difference to most users.

Benchmarks have their place, but it's not to compare cards on totally different systems and uses!
