I have had these problem for over a month. At first the pop-ups were infrequent and my spyware docor seemed to take care of them. Now they have become more frequent and even when I run spyware doctor it never finds any infections. It doesn't change my default browser from Firefox however.

I accidentally forgot to check the box when I was on the quarantine page for SuperAntiSpyware. So I ran the scan again until it found the infection I missed, then I stopped it and quarantined it. That is why there is two Super logs.

So your copy of spyware doctor includes antivirus and it is not just a free trial??

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\jvfacjarp

    RegLock::
    [HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\User Preferences]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some data on it
    • Right click on the screen and select > Select All
    • Press Control+C
    • Open a notepad and press Control+V
    • now please ATTACH that report to this thread

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Address any questions I asked and also attach the log from running MBRCheck.exe.

Yes it is a purchased copy of Spyware Doctor. However, it does not have anti-virus.

Then what ARE you using for anti virus?

Do you know anything about this file?

c:\windows\EMT08FNU18FMU18F <--- If you right click it and check properties can you see anything it might relate to?

Do you use any type of license management software? The reason I ask is because of the below files that are shown in your ShowNew.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\c42kp21.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\c42kp21.tgz
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\clauth1.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\clauth2.dll

These file show up in some places as being malware and in others as being related to valid software related to a license manager. Sometime they are related to the LinuX OS but you are not running Linux on this PC are you? This license management software may not be something you knowingly installed. It may be part of a game or something else you installed on August 31st. It could even be related to the below that has been found being referenced:

Please go to Jotti's malware scan

(If more than one file needs scanned they must be done separately and logs posted for each one)
    • Copy the file path in the below Code box:
      Code:
      c:\windows\EMT08FNU18FMU18F
    • At the upload site, click the browse button.
    • Next click Submit file
    • Your file will possibly be entered into a queue which normally takes less than a minute to clear.
    • This will perform a scan across multiple different virus scanning engines.
    • Important: Wait for all of the scanning engines to complete.
    • Once the scan is finished, Copy and then Paste the link in the address bar into your next reply.

Have it scan the below files too:

    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\c42kp21.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\c42kp21.tgz
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\clauth1.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\clauth2.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\kop7qh8.tgz
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\prsgrc.tgz
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\grcauth1.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\grcauth2.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssprs.tgz

Could you please get this: EMT08FNU18FMU18F into a zipped file and attach it for me in your next post? To do this, see the below:

Please go to start > Run and paste in the following:

The zipped file will be found at C:\collect.zip. Please attach it into your next reply.

As for Anti-virus I found that I have a year subscription to Norton so I will be downloading that and installing that for anti-virus.

As to the EMT file I cannot find it anywhere in the Windows folder. Even with view hidden files it is not there. I tried a search and it is not there. My spyware sweeper did scan earlier this morning and delete an infection. Could this have been deleted?

I don't have a licensing software to my knowledge and do no know the Rainbow Sentinel program you mentioned.

    Note:

All of the below files I am unsure about, so, I would like for you to rename them as shown:

    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\c42kp21.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\c42kp21.tgz.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\clauth1.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\clauth2.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\kop7qh8.tgz.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\prsgrc.tgz.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\grcauth1.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\grcauth2.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssprs.tgz.hhh

Then you can let a week or so go by, and if anything calls for a missing file(s) you can navigate back to it and remove the .hhh extension(s) we added.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Attach the log, but as I said, leave this thread open, let a week or so go by, and let me know how things are going by making another post.

These are all likely valid. In this case, they probably came as part of the Aspen Publishers software that was installed. The fact that ComboFix is deleting some of them means that they need to be restored. ComboFix is incorrect.

    Navigate to

    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\kop7qh8.dll.vir
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\prsgrc.dll.vir
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\ssprs.dll.vir

Rename it to remove the .vir extension, and move the file back to it's original location of:

    c:\windows\system32\kop7qh8.dll

Remove all the .hhh extensions from these files also if you had already read my message and renamed.

    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\c42kp21.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\c42kp21.tgz.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\clauth1.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\clauth2.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\kop7qh8.tgz.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\prsgrc.tgz.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\grcauth1.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\grcauth2.dll.hhh
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssprs.tgz.hhh

Then just continue on with my instructions in post #8 apart from the renaming of the files obviously.

Thanks Chas for pointing this out.

The same applies to the prsgrc.dll and ssprs.dll files that were removed by ComboFix. ;)
