    Ugh, it's a pain.

    I just put this system together.

    The Mobo = Asus A7v600-X
    cpu= AMD XP 3200
    Video = Chaintech GeForce FX 5700

    The reboots only happen in games that are graphic intense (happens in Medal of Honor PA demo, Colin McRae 5 demo, and occasionally in MOHAA SP)

    Someone told me it sounds like an overheat, which I find hard to beleive considering I have 4 fans (not including cpu, video, etc). My pc temps on 'average' are
    mobo = 40 C
    CPU = 51 C

    Right after a reboot/crash
    mobo = 40 C
    CPU = 56 C

    any thoughts?

    I have a few more q's... one.. in the video manual, it says that it requires 'an available hard disk drive power dongle'
    Why would it need this, and I see nothing that would fit such a plug....

    In BIOS, what are the CPU frequency Multiple and CPU External FReqency, and how do I know what the correct settings are? ( I see no mention in the manuals)'

    How about temps of the videocard itself, do you have active cooling on it?

    Perhaps the card needs a 2nd power source other than the system bus?

    Well, what programs have you got installed? any chance you're using SP2? also, any 'Norton' software on your machine.... it could be software and/or hardware related, I wouldnt worry about those temps, they seem normal operating temps...

    Your best bet, firstly in the BIOS, set the system to FAIL-SAFE defaults, if that option is allowed via your bios, then if you have any norton software, click click... delete it... *shudders*...

    Also, what wattage is your PSU (Power Supply Unit)?

    Nothing but the fan that came attached to the card. How can I find out the temp of the video card? I do have a pci slot system fan 2 bays over from it (nothing in between).

    I thought that too, but there is no place on the card for plugin.

    Yes, I am using SP2. No Norton.

    Ok, do me a little favour, go into your bios, make sure that memory timing is set to auto, or set it to the lowest there is..

    I had a similiar problem, well, 2 diffrent occasions, 2 problems, theoretically the same cause...

    First time it happened was becuase I set my system RAM timings to 400Mhz, where I am using PC-2700 memory (Which I thought was 3200..) changing it back to auto, and it then set it at 333. fixed my problem..

    Then after I upgraded to SP2, whenever I played music, bang, system would hard reset itself... boiled down to Norton doing it, a conflict of sorts, deleted norton, grabbbed avast instead, touch wood, been fine since!

    I dont quite know what the problem is and whats causing it for you though, your installed programs are like any other joe blows, um... have you made sure all Drivers, Chipset INF's, etc are upto date and the latest (FINALS.... Not beta drivers) are installed?

    I dunno, other than that I think your going to have to get someone with much more knowledge and experience than me, most of the stuff I know I`ve learn through the guys here, (The ex-3dFilers and hardware-pacers...) over the years and using hands on.. havent been back into it until recently.. So I am a bit rusty...

    so,

    it's not my video card. I put my old one back in (ATI radeon 7500 64mb) and it rebooted when trying to load Raven Shield.

    Anyone have any thoughts??

    I'm really at a loss here.

    Make sure the bios isn't set to reboot at a certain temperature, or set at too low a temperature.

    That would explain why it's rebooting when it's under strain gaming.

    I thought of that....this MB says it has a CPU overheating protection... I can't find it for the life of me.. ;/

    Ok. Where in the power is it?

    I haven;t updated my bios yet (no time but I will when I get back) the only options I see there are to *ignore* the cpu/mobo temps. Which doesn't solve the problem, I'm afraid.

    Is there a way to set the temp I want it to shut down at? That is what I cannot find.

    Thanks for your help, BTW. I really do appreciate it.

    Hi Towerkel,

    According to your motherboard manual, its under Power tab.. then 'Hardware Monitor'.. it should say ' -> Hardware Monitor' on the POWER tab screen, hit enter on the hardware monitor, to go into those options...

    Dave

    Ps: I'm gathering this ONLY by your manual, thats all I really have at my disposal to help you, sorry...
