Had a power failure during de-frag of this drive...
Was the master drive on a dell optiplex...
lost some info, so tried to re-coup the drive, no way?
So I used the second drive and loaded windows etc, and
started over...now that drive works, but the computer is
starting each time looking for that bad master drive...
I have to hit F1 to load windows on that computer...
and everything works as should...but need the second drive
    for more diskspace...
Ok, Now I have that bad drive out of unit and tried to reformat it in my second Dell computer a Dimension...won't recognize the drive???
All I want to do is wipe it clean and put it back in origianal
    computer for second harddrive!
Drive was in a Dell computer but is FuJisu Brand Drive...

Thanks in advance for any ideas...Tinkertoy

I dont quite understand whats going on here, but if your computer will boot into windows I would hook up both drives and go to:

    1. My Computer
    2. Right click the drive you want cleared and click Format.

format it using the NTFS format and let the computer do it.

If your computer doesnt detect it at all make sure that the jumpers on the drive are correct. (You may want to set them to slave for now until you can get it cleared). If that doesnt work I would try to take out your other drive and set the one you want cleared to Master (with jumpers) and put in your windows cd. (Make sure your first boot device is the cd rom drive when trying it this way.) and then it will ask you to boot from cd. push any button and then setup windows that way.

Depending on how big the drive is and how old your Dimension desktop is could determine whether your old computer will detect it or not. The newer bigger drives usually dont get detected on older systems.

Hope this helps and Good Luck.

Could you explain how you solved the problem with your PC looking in your bad HD for the OS. Its pretty vague the way you explained it.

As for this problem before you changed anything. If you go into bios when starting the PC you can select the order in which the PC will look for an Operating System. Usually id go with the order :
    1. CD Drive
    2. HardDrive1(with os)
    3. HardDrive2

The pc should detect the drives then. You can then gointo mycomputer rightclicking on the drive in Question and click Format.

    Give it a shot.

Thanks for the help and sorry about confusion on the drives...
The drive I am trying to reformat was the OS Drive...On...
The second drive I added an OS and puter works with that drive,
and have put everything I need back on this drive...
If I hookup the bad drive which has the original OS still on it,
but missing info...SO, puter keeps recognizing that bad drive as the
master drive??? And asks for the boot up disk, Ok Bootup disk
and cannot repair that drive or reformat it!!!
Yes I tried to change the OS drive in startup boot setup dos...

Now trying to format the bad drive on my other puter, but it won't
recognize it, so trying to find a driver for it, may be my problem...

I will work on some of the things you 2 sent me...

    Thank You,
    Sincerely,
    tinkertoy

Go to the Fujitsu site and look for a disk utility to write Zeros (low level format)to the drive..
