Re: help with READ & RUN ME guide

i stumbled upon your website looking for a way to remedy my printer connection - lost it recently and cannot add any printer (was working perfectly last week) - keeps saying printer spooler cannot run.

so i was trying to do all the steps in READ & RUN ME FIRST but am stuck in the safe mode bit

when i start safe mode on my XP i am not able to get a desktop - all i get is a black screen with SAFE MODE written in the 4 corners of the screen and the windows service pack2 details on top.
i tried to run explorer.exe from the task manager but that does not execute.

will be grateful for your help and advice

i have done as you said -
2 problems:

regarding print spooler
when i ran the services.msc it shows status as blank - i right clicked on printer spooler and hit start - got the message 'Could not start the print spooler in the local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'

the other problem when going through Read and Run me :
tried to load adaware 2007 from lavasoft : could not install the software - got the message 'problem with installer package' - never had this problem before

sorry - i'm not exactly an advanced user so would you please tell me how to get and attach the logs including the ShowNew, GetRunKeys and HJT?

i had not tried to install or uninstall any printers - all was well in the first week of this month and then one day tried to print a doc off and all printers were gone from the printers and faxes page - tried to hit add new printer and it kept showing print spooler not running - did the services.msc as you said - but just cannot get the print spooler to start.

i really want to clear my XP laptop of all malaware and spyware and i am glad i found this website - will do exactly what you say but please tell me how to.

have downloaded the softwares

but big problem now
could not run bitdefender in safe mode so tried it in normal mode

ran online bitdefender as suggested in step 6A of the READ and Run me guide - desktop disappeared at end of scan - had detected about 40 odd viruses and about 4000 infected files - saved scan report - tried explorer.exe - could not get desktop back
- hit the restart button - logged off - then laptop asked me for my password to log onto windows - typed it in and it says 'loading your personal settings'and then it straightaway goes into l'ogging off' and then 'closing network connections' to go back to the password screen
tried safe mode - same story there as well - i am now using PC at work to send this request for help

please help!!!

guess i'm a bit stuffed then

had major problems 2-3 years ago with this laptop when trying to go wireless - friend took it to sort it out - returned it saying he'd formatted and reloaded Xp - never gave me any CD and i was too inexperienced to ask for one - was fine though.
so bottom line is - no i don't have a cd

obliged for any help

had to take it to a shop to sort it out - unfortunately he had to format and reload xp - could not save any files as he could not take the drive out of computer because of a fragile outer case
working fine now with xp home ed this time but lost most of my files

is there any way i could recover them?
appreciate any ideas and advice
