RE: New (to me) Dell laptop

Ok, I have sucessfully revived the Dell Latitude D610 but I am not able to play FFXI on it because of extreme lag in the game, before anyone says or asks, yes I have installed every driver that Dell offers plus some I found otherwise and the laptop is supposed to have an ati Graphics card but I think it may be nonfunctional (?) or something, any assistance with this would be great, thanks to everyone in advance, Balth

 

Lag can be caused by background processes, RAM, hard drive speed, and yes graphics chipset. Bad thing about laptops, is that you can not change out the GPU or CPU, but you can always change out the harddrive and upgrade RAM. have you tried a freash install? you sometimes find you get windows rot and you get a load of background processes hogging memory. Your system meets the minimum but your RAM is a little on the low side, especially as your GPU is shared.

 

Yes, it was a completely fresh install on a hard drive from my previous Dell laptop (inspiron 8200) I first reformatted the hard drive then started the install of win xp home I also took the time to defragment the HD last night but have yet to test it on FFXI, Thank's, Balthazor
