realtek AC97 iintegral mike not working

Hi, not sure if I am in the right area, but my integral realtek AC97 microphone [laptop] suddenly stopped working. I used to use it regularly for Skype, then it just stopped. Any ideas please? I have tried to download a new driver, but it won't download or is found to be corrupt once it has downloaded. I have run the usual checks, which have just confirmed that it is not working.

Let me get this straight.... the laptop has a built-in microphone that has stopped working? OR- the microphone that you plug into a mic jack has stopped working? If it's the built-in mic, try using the mic jack and an external microphone. If you already use an external mic, try a different one. If you want to try re-installing the audio drivers, try these:

Be sure to uninstall the previous drivers before installing the new ones... uninstall them in safe mode if necessary.

 

Hi, thanks for the reply, sorry about delay in responding, but we live in a mobile home and depend on hotspots for internet access. It is the integral mike that has stopped working, but I have also tried and external plug in mike and that also does not work. I will try the downloads you recommend, but I do not know how to uninstall the previous driver. Can you help me with that please? Thanks
