    Hi. :)

Ok, I bought a HP microtower, dx2300. It's the best one in series. Core 2 duo. Details from EVEREST included.

I have some realtek audio card, via UAA hd audio port. And I am having SERIOUS problems with installing that bugy card. I read this guide: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=277688 - and let me tell you, nothing works for me.

First of, I installed UAA and Realtek drivers. But I am getting numerous errors. First of, in device manager, Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus has this device status:
    Code:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver
And when I go to safe mode and try to uninstall the device, it says:
    Code:
Failed to uninstall device: The device might be required to boot up the computer.
I of course disabled it first...

More, when I try to install realtek drivers, it says
    Code:
Failed to install. Error code -0001
And when I go to Audio device on high definition audio bus (I'll refer to this in further text as ADOHAB) and try to reinstall, nothing happens. When I click update, nothing happens.

I think (that is because the horribile mess of drivers on this shitty hp) I installed motherbord chipset. I had no problems installing Video chipset family. But had LOTS of problems with network setup.

Did you try that update? If you did and still have no sound, try the steps below.
Make sure all your HP updates are current and also your Windows ones.

    1. Boot into Safe Mode
    2. Open Device Manager, go to System devices
    3. Disable (DO NOT UNINSTALL) the Microsoft UAA driver.
    4. Reboot into Safe Mode again (This is so that driver will not load)
    5. Open Device Manager, go to System devices
    6. Now... uninstall the Microsoft UAA driver. This should also remove the Realtek audio.
(Check Add/Remove Programs to see if Realtek Audio is gone, if not try uninstalling it)
    7. Reboot to Windows XP (normal boot).
    8. Do not let Windows install your drivers. Say "No" to the New Hardware Wizard.
    9. Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.

    Install your driver.

I did that. But if you read my post you'll see, that when I try to uninstall the driver, I get
Failed to uninstall device: The device might be required to boot up the computer.

But I have told you, I get the error, when I try to uninstall the driver. Even in SM!
    Code:
Failed to uninstall device: The device might be required to boot up the computer.

    EDIT: No problem.

What shows in Device Manager under System devices? Is the MS UAA there?

We all seem to do off the wall things at times. Just about every morning, I think I have lost MY sound, until I remember my headphones are plugged in. LOL

Glad your sound is working again.:)
