recent xfire problem

Has anyone had problems after running one of these programs?

I'm getting an error on xfire that won't let me open it up now and the '

only thing I did was run this program. I wondered if it cleaned house

a little too well?

Just a thought.

 

Did you use a registry cleaner to clean house? If so, see if the cleaner makes backups of the .reg entries it deletes and reintroduce these backups into the registry.

 

I performed a system restore so that shouldn't be an issue, right?

 

Nope, shouldn't be an issue. Have you downloaded and installed the latest release 1.79?

Have you checked out the FAQs on Xfire's site?

Are there any other programs on your system that won't open?

 

Yes latest release and FAQ's ...I have checked them out and didn't really see

my problem as being a frequent problem so I am unlucky there

 

See if this may help:

Start>>Run

In Run type "cmd" without quotes, click OK

In command prompt type or copy and paste the following:

assoc.exe=exefile

Hit enter.

Try opening the program.

 

now it won't even open to give me an error

 

Reinstall xfire?

Funny you should say that....I did....3 times.

I've uninstalled it ....reinstalled it and when I sign on....

I get the same message window which pops up saying they have

created an error report I can upload to them. Once I do it disappears

but the program never opens.

It's titled a "crash"

 

Go to Start>>Run

In run type "eventvwr.msc" without the quotes

Click OK

In Event View in the left pane click on "Application", in the right pane check for any errors related to xfire.

Also check "System" for the same.

If you find any errors, double click on the entry. This will open "Properties".

Look for Event ID number. Post this number. It will help in finding the problem.

You will also see a "Description" area which will give you more info. on the error. There is also a blue MS link. Click on it to see if there are possible remedies for the problem.

 

I don't see any related to xfire. Strange.

I'm thinking I'm gonna get stuck reformatting.

 

Are you trying to open xfire with a desktop shortcut?

Have you tried going into Program Files, opening the xfire folder and trying to open it by double clicking on the .exe?

 

yes I have

but not since the most recent install

 

What program did you run?

 

Clean up

C Cleaner

Maxregistry Cleaner

Not sure which one might have caused the problem.

 

Did you make backups with Ccleaner? If so go to where you saved the backups, double click on the backup that was made just before the problems with xfire began, enter them into the registry.

Don't know about Maxregistry cleaner, but if backups were made of the deleted registry entries, add the backup into the registry.

Seems as though some .reg entry was deleted that is causing the problem with xfire.
