Recommend DVD to AVI freeware program?

Hi.
Thank you all for your support, for starters.
I was wondering if you could recommend me a good freeware program to convert DVD's (private copies, not commercial ones) to AVI's files.
Ive tried AutoGK but its sloooooow, at least 3 hours per DVD.
Have to say i would prefer to be an easy program, because im not much of a specialist here. AutoGK was great, just a few buttons to push and that's it, but slooooowwww.....

I use AutoGK as well. It's slow, but the quality is very high. Also, you don't have to convert videos while you're awake. Do it while you're asleep. I could care less if it takes 8 hours.

 

Your hardware has a greater impact on video file converting than the program used, as the process is CPU intensive. I've used AutoGK, Handbrake and Slysoft CloneDVD2 on my pc and all take about 2 hours to rip a DVD to an avi file. Switching programs will not give you the boost you expect, in my opinion.

 

I use AGK too, and it takes less than 90 minutes per movie.... it really depends on your hardware. Most DVD rippers will take some time and there isn't much that can be done about it, unfortunately.

 

Well, I use the actual Gordian Knot program, not to be confused with Auto Gordan Knot "AGK". Mine take about an hour-and-a-half to two hours. Like stated above, it mainly depends on your processor and the amount of ram you have installed.

Time to save a little money, i guess ....

 

Iru, just a reminder it is the processor that is important. You won't see much added improvement once you get up to a gig of RAM.
