Recommendations for a Good Antivirus

I am interested in a new anti virus program,free is good, but I am willing to pay. I am using McAfee now . Any recommendations? Thanks

 

Used Avast for many years without any problems. Also installed it on many family/freinds PC's too

I have returned to AVG 8 after using and installing Avast on mine and several other PC's.
I liked Avast, but it seems that it was not stopping as much malware as it should.
Since re-cleaning the other PC's and installing AVG 8 on those PC's, the owners seem to be more protected and have not called me in several months about malware on their machines.
I don't know if they have wised up or if AVG is just doing a better job.

Also, while cleaning their machines and running scans, AVG found stuff AFTER Avast had looked and said the systems were clean.
Both apps were fully updated and run seperately, so there was no conflict there.
That is what made me change.

(And before anyone points out that an AV scan will not completely remove all malware on a system, I know that and have been very successful at fully cleaning out infected machines)

What about good FREE Antivirus programs that support user fast-switching?

I found that I really like the PC Tools Antivirus program version 5.0.0.16 but have found that the Free version does not support the user fast-switching. So, when my two kids switch between their user accounts the 2nd one to log on is left unprotected for an Antivirus program.

Just thought I would pose that question so others can see what a good AV program is available that does support the user fast-switching as it is becoming more common for computers to be shared by multiple family members now and for users to use the fast-switching instead of having to log out fully each time someone else wants to use the computer.

Will be changing back to AVG8 so that all users have AV protection.
