Recovering Data from portable external HDD !!

Hi All,

A week back, i dropped my external portable WD HDD ,but to my fortune, it is working fine, Thank God ! was just wondering what if i couldnt read the data ,
Is there some means to recover the data, i mean some software ?

I just saw a new external HDD a frend got , it has like 2 USB cables on the computer connecting end, what is it actually ? Can it be used for data recovery ?

A two-split USB cable most likely means that the external drive has no AC-adapter for power, and instead receives all power trough the USB connection. It plugs into two USB ports on the tower or laptop because a single port might not be able to provide enough power.

For file recovery, try PC Inspector. Lots of people have had good luck with it, and it's free.

Question for site admins: I thought we had PC Inspector File Recovery on MGs? If we do, please edit my post to point the link to a MajorGeeks download. I looked for it, but I only found PC Inspector Smart Recovery, which seems to be entirely for media files, and not for anything else that might need to be recovered, such as word documents, spread sheets, et cetera. I know don't what TC needs to recover, but there's a good chances it's a lot more than jsut photos and movies, so Smart Recovery might not be enough. Again, if we have the other one, please edit my post to link to an MG download.
