Redirect malware

    Basically I have this, seemingly common, redirect malware. My PC's performance seems a bit slower as well. I think McAfee showed me a ZeroAccess GAC_64,32? I can't remember because sometimes McAfee finds it and other times it reports no threats.

    I have went through the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" and it seemed to clean it up for about an hour, but I just got into a redirection again a while ago and noticed that my games weren't running smoothly.

    Note* when I ran some of the tools it did find things, but I did not delete them as directed by the thread. Also, I ran the cure on TDSSkiller, but I am not sure it worked as it did not recommend a reboot as directed by the thread.

    I apologize beforehand for my lack of knowledge, but I am trying to be as specific as possible. I am ready to get rid of this junk. ;) Thank you for any input or help you would have to offer.

    [IMG] Fix items using RogueKiller.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the files folder tab and locate these 8 detections:

    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] U : C:\Windows\Installer\{5dd60c0b-a87e-4da7-63f5-351ca2149a0b}\U --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] U : C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-18\$5dd60c0ba87e4da763f5351ca2149a0b\U --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] U : C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-21-2740442479-3523019548-2224670041-1001\$5dd60c0ba87e4da763f5351ca2149a0b\U --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] L : C:\Windows\Installer\{5dd60c0b-a87e-4da7-63f5-351ca2149a0b}\L --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] L : C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-18\$5dd60c0ba87e4da763f5351ca2149a0b\L --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] L : C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-21-2740442479-3523019548-2224670041-1001\$5dd60c0ba87e4da763f5351ca2149a0b\L --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FILE] Desktop.ini : C:\Windows\Assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FILE] Desktop.ini : C:\Windows\Assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini --> FOUND

    Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

    Re run Hitman, under the heading "Suspicious files" you should see:
    • C:\Windows\system32\services.exe

    With this entry, let Hitman "Replace"

    You can also have it delete "Malware remnants" if they show.

    Now run another scan with Hitman (just a scan, no fix) and attach new log.

    Re run TDSSKiller now, again, just a scan. Attach new log.

    Tell me, what is inside of this folder? C:\ProgramData\6223DF175E67C80400066223D8BB9008

    Also, do you know what these files are? If not delete them.
    • C:\ProgramData\ad3Gjx24.exe.b
    • C:\ProgramData\ad3Gjx24.exe_.b
    • C:\ProgramData\ArxA403A.dat

    This next part *can* take a while, so best to go off and do something else for a bit.

    Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

    After reboot, check to see if your firewall is working.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Ok, everything was accomplished. I deleted those 3 unknown files.

    I could only open the "C:\ProgramData\6223DF175E67C80400066223D8BB9008" folder in notepad which gave me a bunch of...

    Things seem to be running much more smoothly. Though I am still getting the occasional redirect, I've only noticed it when I try to go to some anime sites. I think malwarebytes is also not letting me connect to some anime sites because of a possible threat (which is fine), but that is the only particular sites I've noticed the problem with.

    Redirect to where exactly??

    Also, you need to attach the logs I requested. :) Thanks.

    Delete this C:\ProgramData\6223DF175E67C80400066223D8BB9008

    EDITED**

    Ugh, thought I did :p sry... here we go...

    File deleted... and...

    The redirect goes to various sites (I've noticed the website "Spry, Monster, and a couple search engines"), but it usually shows "click.livesearch.com" in the URL while it is redirecting.

    OK..

    We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. (Except please use Revo Uninstaller to do so) So do the below to save bookmarks:

    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
    Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

    You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

    Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
    After reboot, delete the below folders:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

    where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

    Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
    Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Any better?

    Ok, no more redirects up to this point. Things seem to be running smoothly :)

    Good, if all is still well...

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
