reformatting stops at 80%.

When I reformat it goes to 80% and stops I have waited hours. I start again and do the fast reformat. I want to do it all.Any help would be appreciated.:cry

 

Hi Irish,

You cannot use Fast Format on a drive that has not been successfully Full Formated. Fast Format is pretty much equivalent to Deleteing all files. No data is removed.

Some formatters have trouble in certain rare circumstances. It may help to repartition. There is also low-level formatting, which should be done with your drive manufacturer's tools. If your drive is old, it may be going bad. This happened to me before, but I got it to format after repartitioning and using a different format application. I ran scandisk on it afterward, and found it had many bad sectors, and was decaying fast. If the drive won't format easily, it usually means it needs replacing, or will soon be going bad. If it won't repartition, that is, clear the partition and make a new one, it is useless unless a low-level format helps.

 

Bought it off my cousin it's probably 4 years old..80 Gig HDD. I better stat looking for one..Thanks for all your help!!!
