I just bought an Athlon 64 x2 3800+ socket 939 used for about $100, a significant saving compared to what a new one costs. The company I bought it from has over 150,000 feedbacks and 97% are positive. They have a 30 day full refund warranty with no extra cost to me, so if the cpu is bad at all I'll just send it back. How are some ways I can tell if it is working to its full potential?

once it is in your system, run a stress test to max out the cpu usage. There should not be any errors, especially at factory settings. I recommend Prime95 to do the stress/torture test, but there are many more programs out there.

Hard to say for sure if its working as it should be, but this is just one test i can think of.
