regedit fubars

everytime i try to get into regedit, i get an error message sayin its being used by another program. what program might be doin this constantly and how do i stop it/fix it?

How are you trying to access regedit?, by typing into the run box?
Sounds like you have a virus.
Can you access msconfig, if so what is showing in the start tab?

Can you access either program in safe mode?

Finally can you run the system file checker from the run box?

start>run>typein
cmd

at the > prompt in the black box which opens type sfc /scannow (note double n)

If none of this helps you will need to start again in the malware section, sorry.
