Okay, my comp has been around for a while, and I know its registry is probably filled with bad entries that are severely hurting performance.

I've seen a lot of recommended registry cleaners, but of course, they all cost money. Worst still, most free trials on recommended ones only allow you to change like 6 at a time. When you have 700+ bad entries, that wont work.

My question is: can anyone recommend a GOOD reg cleaner that is either free or has a trial that isnt like the ones I described.

Which brings me to my next question: is it worth the risk to use a bargain registry cleaner?

I use Registry First Aid by RoseCitySoftware. Works great for me

Although it does a bit more than just Registry cleaning, I like JV16 PowerTools.

Like any good removal program should, it creates backups of the files removed and flags what is safe to delete and what isn't, always erring on the side of caution.

Hi,i`ve used "Ultrawincleaner one click" for 2 years now and it works great at cleaning out the registry---never had any problems with it.

A few I have used and are Free

    Regcleaner

    EasyCleaner

and as said earlier if the program takes a backup of what its deleted you can easily restore the deleted keys back... however anything to do with the altering/deleting parts of the registry can upset your OS.

Having said that I have been deleting the junk out of my registry for years with no problems at all and still use the first program I listed above each month.

Regcleaner is a very good program, though I use RegSupreme pretty much exclusively now. Not free, but a very good program.

Be careful if you use EASYCLEANER by ToniArts. The registry cleaner in it will
mess up the WINDOWS SET-UP function in ADD-REMOVE in Control Panel.
