    On booting up my computer today, it automatically tried to install a program, which said that it was "TurboTax ItsDeductible 2006". I already had "TurboTax ItsDeductible 2006" installed (or I may have unistalled it a month ago - I don't remember). I kept hitting canceled, but it kept trying to install the program. I finally used Window Task Manager to stop the installation.

    It also placed a short cut "Registry Mechanic" on my desk top. I've had "Registry Mechanic" on my computer at least within the last two years, but never used it and may have uninstalled it.

    I removed "TurboTax ItsDeductible 2006" and "Registry Mechanic" from my computer.

    Do either of "TurboTax ItsDeductible 2006" or "Registry Mechanic" bring up known viruses? My concern is that virus programs used the names of these two programs rather than being the actual programs themselves. My concern is the automatic nature of something causing the attempted installation of "TurboTax ItsDeductible 2006" and the placing of the short cut "Registry Mechanic" on my desktop.

    Further, when I tried to run SpywareBlaster, I received the following error:

    ***********************************
    Cannot find import; DDL may be missing, corrupt, or wrong version
    File "MSVBVM60.DLL", error 126
    ***********************************

    I reinstalled SpywareBlaster and the same error came up when I tried to run the reinstalled version.

    In my folder C:\WINDOWS\system32, I see "msvbvm50.dll" but not "MSVBVM60.DLL". Apparently, MSVBRun60.exe installs Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 run-time files

    An internet posted suggestion at http://www.wilderssecurity.com/archive/index.php/archive/t-60458.html from 2005 reads

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    The program does not run, and reports that a file
    named "msvbvm60.dll" is missing.Please download the following
    MS run-time installer which will install the missing file and
    allow you to use SpywareBlaster without any problems:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb60pro/Redist/sp5/WIN98Me/EN-US/vbrun60sp5.exe
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Will that fix the file "MSVBVM60.DLL", error 126?

    No! It is more likely you have Windows problems. Something to do with broken/incomplete installs.

    Or possibly you have perform a system restore.

    Not a topic for the malware forum. You are missing files required for Visual Basic applications. Yes you should install the VB 6 runtime package and for additional questions on this, please post in the Software Forum.
