Sony Vaio with Intel PRO/1000 PM Network chip. After a few days, the mouse "sticks" and system performance goes to pot. Is there is a network timeout loop in the windows polling loop? Connection is lost -- cannot even ping the router. Anyway, it always goes away if I reboot, or alternately if I uninstall and reinstall the Intel driver.

Tried to install a driver update, but it won't work at all.

    Suggestions?

    Hi

Which Windows version and Service Pack?

A few things I would try in trying to narrow this down are:

    1. Boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose, Safe Mode with Networking) and see if your OK

    2. Check for malware

    3. Disable your Firewall and Antivirus application and see if one of them is causing this, also tell us what applications you use for security?

Running Windows XP Media Center, Service Pack 3

Just completed a scan with the Microsoft virus scan and also Avast. Neither found anything.

Regular antivirus is Avast -- software firewall is disabled

I will boot in safe mode next time it fails (I had to reboot again this morning)
