Replacing Acer Travelmate 250 Hard disk

Hi,

Does anyone know how to remove the hard drive from an Acer Travelmate 250 laptop? I can't see any obvious panel.

It looks like the hard drive is under the battery release switch. Remove the battery and look for a tab to pull it out. Here is a link to the service manual.

Thanks Reaper! I now have the hard drive but it looks like I need a pin adapter as the drive has 46 pins and my IDE drive cable to hook it up to my PC has 40. Do you know what that is called. Can you explain why the laptop drive has different number pins.

2.5" laptop drives have a different connector than 3.5" standard desktop drives. The quickest way to transfer your data to your desktop is to buy a USB to IDE adapter. Here is a link to one on newegg.

If you want to install the notebook drive as a slave drive in your desktop you will need one of these adapters

Thanks again Reaper. just checking that I have found the right adapter. Could you have a look at the link and see if this will connect my 2.5" (46 pins) to my PC. I have USB 2.0 ports on the PC.

That enclosure is for a SATA 2.5" drive. You have a IDE notebook 2.5" drive.
So no that will not work for you. If you can find the same enclosure for a IDE instead that would be fine.
