Replacing original files

I have an interesting scenario on my computer:

I installed windows, and after plugging in my video card (Geforce4 MX 440SE) installed the necessary drivers for it.

I had a sound problem, so after trying numerous attempts at getting it to work, finally fixed the problem by just installed all the drivers for the A7V8X-X mobo on the Asus website. That certainly did fix the sound problem.

However my video card resolution was reset. In fact, the drivers I previously installed for my 440SE were completely gone-replaced? Now whenever I try to re-install the drivers I can't...I think this has something to do with the drivers I installed from the Asus website. I just get an error message during installation (fr ver.):

"Le programme d'installtatio NVIDIA n'a pas pu localiser de pilotes compatibles avec votre materiel..."

Google research tells me that the problem has something to do with those drivers I installed from Asus.com...but how do I get rid of them? They aren't listed in the add/remove section...And how do I get rid of the right one? This is really aggravating!

Open Device Manager (Windows key + the Pause/Break key), Hardware tab, then Device Manager. Click on the + next to Display adapters and right click on the currently listed adapter and choose Uninstall. Exit and reboot/restart. Go back to Device manager and go to the display adapter again and right click on it and choose Update Driver.
