Hi, after getting home a few weeks ago I found that my parents computer was infected with some malware do to some toolbars/add-ons that were mistakenly downloaded. I was able to remove the majority of it, however after going 'READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide' there are still a few remaining issues remaining. After clicking on any links, or even just clicking regular areas on screen pages, the browser will redirect or open random tabs for ad/scam pages. Attached you will find all the logs of the scans performed. I would really appreciate some help on this. Thanks

Re run Hitman and have it delete malware and potentially unwanted programs.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.sweetpacks.com/?src=10&st=12&crg=3.5000006.10043&barid={CDEAC661-B4D7-11E2-9D9F-001D6093199F}
    • R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {9b138bf3-1d40-4e7e-84bb-2975198ad938} - C:\Program Files\CouponXplorer_5z\bar\1.bin\5zSrcAs.dll (file missing)

    • O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Delete this file:

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Please save the work in your browsers before proceeding.
    • Double-click JRT.exe to run (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Please attach JRT.txt to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

I went through your instructions and this seems to have fixed the redirect issue. However, the computer is running extremely slow compared to before and Firefox is crashing within minutes of running it (each time when I went to add an attachment). I had to run in safe mode to keep it from crashing on me. Also, I ran JRT and it took a long while and seemed to finish, but it did not leave a log after closing, so I'm not sure if it ever did run through completely.

Re run analyze.exe and have it fix this two remaining entries.

    • O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - !{364ea597-e728-4ce4-bb4a-ed846ef47970} - (no file)
    • O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - !{65c72339-fb1d-4155-84e1-9afacee02d6f} - (no file)

Now rescan with analyze.exe (hijackthis) and see if these two show up again or if they are really gone for good.

When you rerun Hitman does it find anything else? If so attach log please so I can see.

After rerunning hijackthis, those two entries reappeared. Then when I ran Hitman, MGTools.exe showed up as a trojan. I ignored it and attached the hitman log for you to see.

    Uninstall MapsGalaxy

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now things should be better. Let me know.

I was able to successfully add those to the registry. I was not however, able to uninstall MapsGalaxy. I recieved the following message when trying to uninstall, "Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\MAPSGA~2\bar\1.bin\39Bar.dll"

Everything is running smoothly now. Thanks a bunch for your help. Are there any final steps I need to do?

    Yes, here you are. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
