rid of MESSENGER SERVICE popups?

    thanks in advance for some help.
    (using windows xp)

    I want to get rid of popups that say:

    MESSENGER SERVICE

    currently using adaware and spybot...but doesnt seem to help.

    Start, settings, control panel, administrative services. Find Messenger, select stop. Choose disabled in drop down box. Select ok. Problem solved.

    Should be disabled by service pack 2, which means your Windows Updates are out of date. Keep them current.

    no more messenger popups.

    I am currently downloading SP2....8 hours worth
    on the modem. Again, thanks for the assistance.

    Yup, with modem it does suck, you could have ordered it on CD for the cost of shipping. Good idea just ot have it around. Glad it worked out.
